Wendy Harris has been nominated for the Legacy Award  for her long-standing dedication to supporting Reading’s homeless and vulnerable community through her work with Readistreet.

“Wendy is the driving force behind Readistreet, offering a vital service to those who find themselves homeless in Reading,” said her nominator.

She provides hot meals and drinks five nights a week and coordinates a devoted team of volunteers who collect food from local providers and support those in need with warmth, dignity, and compassion.

They added: “Her tireless commitment, often delivered in emotionally demanding circumstances, has transformed countless lives. Wendy’s care goes far beyond providing meals—she ensures that those most in need are served first and takes great pride in knowing every individual she helps by name. Her approach is personal, respectful, and always rooted in humanity.

“Under her leadership, Readistreet has become more than a service – it is a safe, trusted community where individuals in crisis are met with kindness, care, and hope.

“Wendy works quietly but tirelessly alongside churches, volunteers, and local organisations – never seeking the spotlight, always putting others first.

“Her legacy is one of resilience, humility, and unwavering kindness. Wendy Harris represents the very best of Reading’s community spirit, and this award would be a truly fitting tribute to her lifelong impact.”
