A man’s work for a local football club, which aims to make the sport accessible to all, has allowed it to grow beyond its dreams.

“Martin works hard for our football club – RG4 FC – not only to coach his team but to fundraise, getting much needed funds for the club, allowing us to keep it at low cost to the families involved.” 

His nominator for Neighbourhood Champion, sponsored by Reading Football Club, added: “The club started in 2022 and the aim was to make football accessible to everyone no matter what their financial needs were or social background or SEN needs.

“We rely on getting funding to cover these costs as, although all coaches give their own time, league games and registrations cost,” they added.

Martin has also set up a 6-a-side team to support men with their mental health. “They play every week and have grown as a group to trust and talk,” said his nominator.

“His work for the club has allowed us to grow beyond our dreams and support so many children and adults.”
