Children Heard and Seen

Sommer is a youth support worker with Children Heard and Seen who delivers weekly support sessions to children affected by parental imprisonment.

Her nominator for Charity of the Year, sponsored by Reading Today, said: “Her kind, funny and compassionate way of leadership makes a lasting impact.

“My two children are able to discuss topics they would not be able to speak about at school – because of the social stigma.

“Thanks to Sommer, they have a safe space to ask questions and speak freely about anything they want to talk about without the constant fear of being stigmatised or ridiculed.

“Sommer's support is invaluable and should be recognised,” said the nominator.

Children Heard and Seen is a charity dedicated to helping children, young people, and families affected by parental imprisonment.

Another nominator for Children Heard and Seen said: “They offer tailored one-on-one support from trained practitioners, assistance for parents/carers, peer support groups for both children and carers, engaging online activities, fun-filled activity days and residentials, as well as practical support such as legal advice and guidance on financial well-being.

“They have supported me and my two children for the past five years. They have improved my children’s wellbeing and ensure they are included at every angle.”
