Caversham Artisan and Farmers Market trading as The Artisan Uprising is “a cornerstone of the community and the driving force behind Caversham transformation into a thriving independent retail hub,” says its nominator of founder Jodie Bennett for Independent Retailer of the Year, sponsored by Rabbits Vehicle Hire.
“For eight years, The Artisan Uprising has operated without fail, becoming integral to Caversham's identity.
“During the COVID-19 pandemic, whilst many businesses closed, The Artisan Uprising remained open, providing a safe space for residents to shop locally and a vital platform for small businesses to survive. This commitment maintained our community's social fabric when it was needed most.”
The market's annual late-night shopping events have become cherished community traditions, bringing families together for evenings of entertainment and unique gift-finding, said the nominator.
Every Sunday brings live music, creating an atmosphere focused as much on community connection as supporting local enterprise.
The diverse array of independent traders represents the best of local creativity and talent, Said the nominator.
“These passionate creators and business owners genuinely care about their customers, creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere that generates authentic relationships increasingly rare in today's retail landscape, which is steering more and more towards online shopping,” said the nominator.
From strength to strength, The Artisan Uprising has grown whilst maintaining its community focus. “It deserves recognition not just as a successful market, but as a community institution proving that business success and social responsibility can flourish together.
“The Artisan Uprising represents everything we value about local community; resilience, creativity, independence and the power of coming together to create something truly special in Caversham.”
