“A true pillar of the Reading hospitality scene,” Jose Monteiro has spent the past 10 years not only excelling in his professional roles but also dedicating his personal time to building a stronger, more connected community within the industry.

His nominator for the Hospitality Award, sponsored by Cream Design, said he is the driving force behind several key networking groups in the area including The Young Professionals of Reading and Connect Reading. T

“These groups, entirely organised and maintained in his own time, provide a space for individuals from all backgrounds and experience levels to meet, share, grow, and support one another,” said the nominator.

“Whether you're new to the area or a seasoned professional, Jose makes sure everyone feels included, welcomed, and valued.”

In 2025, Jose was selected as an ambassador for The Burn Chef Project, an honour awarded to only a handful out of thousands of applicants.

“This recognition speaks volumes about his passion and authenticity. Jose doesn’t shy away from the real conversations – he openly discusses both the highs and the lows of hospitality life, tackling topics around mental and physical health with refreshing honesty and care.

“He is a beacon of support for those navigating the often demanding nature of this industry.”

Jose’s impact extends far beyond his day-to-day responsibilities, they added. “He is a community-builder, a mental health advocate and a role model for what it means to lead with empathy and heart.

“His consistent efforts to uplift others, create safe spaces and foster genuine connections make him not just deserving, but truly ideal for this recognition.

“Jose Monteiro is more than a hospitality professional – he’s a unifier, a changemaker, and an inspiration to us all.”
