Ginny Munro
Transforming a disused telephone box into a defibrillator station and a “beacon of care and preparedness” has brought Ginny Munro a nomination for Local Hero sponsored by Green Park.
Her nominator praised “her outstanding commitment to community health and safety.
“She has transformed a disused public phone box on Albert Road in Caversham into a fully operational community defibrillator hub – an initiative that has already made a tangible difference.”
Ginny led the project from start to finish. She raised the funds through donations, negotiated permissions and restored and painted the old phone box herself.
“Thanks to her tireless efforts, what was once an eyesore is now a beacon of care and preparedness,” said her nominator.
But she didn’t stop there. Understanding that access to life-saving equipment is only part of the solution, Ginny organised free CPR and defibrillator training sessions for local residents, ensuring the whole community feels equipped to act in an emergency, they said.
“Her dedication has created something far greater than a defibrillator – it’s sparked a sense of togetherness and pride in our neighbourhood.
“Alongside a full time job and raising a family, Ginny’s efforts have been entirely voluntary, driven by a deep sense of civic duty and compassion.
“Where many walk past a problem, Ginny stopped, took action and changed lives. This award would be a fitting tribute to her vision, generosity and determination to make Caversham a safer, kinder place for us all.”
