Spill

The trio behind Spill, a café-by-day, cocktail-and-cake bar-by-night venue which opened in December last year, have been put forward for Team of the Year sponsored by Cherubs Floral Design.

Claire Anderton‑Belle, Jodie Bennett and Amanda Adlem launched Spill in Caversham “that brought fresh energy to an empty unit in Caversham’s St Martin’s Precinct.

“With its modern-industrial design, ethical coffee, craft cocktails, artisan bakes and Champagne-and-cake pairings, it’s quickly become a favourite spot for locals.

“They care massively about their staff loving where they work,” they added.

They create a rota that gives everyone proper work-life balance. Staff are encouraged to input into menus and create cocktails, with winning drinks like Tommy’s Lychee Royale (now a best-seller) making it onto the list.

“The whole team feels proud of what they are building together. Claire is especially proud that many of the team have said it’s their favourite job, she is very proud to be the kind of boss that makes that possible.”

Spill is also about community, said the nominator. They co-host Caversham Co-working & Networking Club, support local businesses, champion community events and precinct improvements.

The space is inclusive, LGBTQ+ friendly, welcoming to solo workers and strollers alike, whether customers are there for a coffee, a laptop session, or a cocktail, they added.

“By bringing life back to a vacant space, putting their team first and supporting the local area wherever they can, Spill has very quickly become more than just a bar; it’s a place people feel good about being part of. Just a brilliant all round team!”
