The Avenue School Special Needs Academy
A school described as “the best ever” by one of its students has been nominated for School of the Year, sponsored by Educatering Solutions, in recognition of support it provides to children and young people with additional needs.
The Avenue School Special Needs Academy in Tilehurst is special school for boys and girls from the age of 2 – 19 with complex Special Educational Needs.
“You walk into the school, and you’re hit by warmth, compassion and a whole lot of devotion”, the nominator said.
Headteacher Symon Cooke was praised for his leadership and care for every child, while staff across the school were recognised for consistently putting pupils’ needs first.
“When my son is having difficulty or feeling overwhelmed, the school is always there to help,” the nominator added. “Every single member of staff has the child’s best interests at heart.”
“They not only teach the children; they have to look after all individuals care needs. Not every child is the same and they cater for everyone. When you walk into a class room , it's like a magical place , full of love and happiness.”
The nominators son, said: “I would like to nominate The Avenue School because it’s the best school ever. They always listen to what I need, no matter how big or small it is.”
“I really love the school, even with my highs and lows,” he said.
“My son has thrived so much and wouldn’t be the person he is today without them,” Michelle added. “Imagine the impact they have had on all the other children and families they support.”
