Strong Womens Club

A Caversham gym “built by women, for women” has been nominated for Community of the Year, sponsored by Hilton Reading.

Strong Womens Club on Church Street was founded by friends Nicky Stevens and Natalie Higley after they met on a kettlebell course in 2018.

“What makes Strong Womens Club so special is how it has filled a real gap for local women,” said the nominator. “There was nowhere in the area offering training tailored to women’s needs, from hormones and cycles to menopause, they set out to change that.”

The club works closely with a local menopause specialist, allowing members to access informed support and guidance alongside their workouts.

Women of all ages, backgrounds and fitness levels are “welcomed into a safe, judgement free space” where the focus is on encouragement, confidence and connection, rather than appearance or competition.

“Members don’t just come for exercise, they come to be part of something,” the nominator added. “Friendships are formed, confidence is built, and women become stronger both physically and mentally.”

Nicky and Nat have been praised for helping women who may have previously felt intimidated by traditional gyms feel comfortable, supported and celebrated.

“The ripple effect is stronger, more confident women in our community,” the nominator said. “I have been a member myself and know first-hand how amazing they are.”
