Bravery in the face of challenges most “could never imagine” has earned a young boy with Cerebral palsy a nomination for the Child of Courage award, sponsored by De Vere Wokefield Estate.

“Extraordinary” Salem Potts was once told he would be bound to a wheelchair and might never walk independently. But rather than letting the doctor’s predictions define him.

“From a very young age, Salem has faced challenges that most of us could never imagine, yet he meets each one with bravery, resilience and a smile,” said the nominator.

Salem has showed “incredible perseverance” through years of therapy sessions and as a result has achieved something many thought would never be possible – taking independent steps out of his wheelchair.

“What makes Salem even more special is his beautiful personality. He has the kindest heart of gold, brings joy to those around him and never gives up, even when things are difficult,” they said.

“Salem reminds everyone that courage isn’t about never facing obstacles; it’s about facing them with hope and determination.”
