Stephanie Awbery
“Decades of dedication” from the founder of a “hugely popular” motor show has been recognised for Putting Reading on the Map, sponsored by Purple Turtle and Jacobs the Jewellers.
For more than 22 years, Steph Awbery, founder of the Berkshire Motor Show, has dedicated herself to organising a much-loved community vehicle show that has raised more than £60,000 for charities while bringing thousands of people together across Reading.
Inspired by a desire to give back after the community supported Steph’s disabled mother, the event began in a farmer’s field in Grazeley and boasted one of the South’s first monster truck displays.
It has since grown into a hugely popular free annual event at Prospect Park, featuring classic cars, local stalls, clubs and entertainment for families and visitors from across the region.
Behind the scenes, Steph organises almost everything herself, from sponsorship and bookings to promotion and planning. After major operations and approaching 70 years old, she remains at the heart of the event, ensuring the park is left clean and welcoming for the public afterwards.
“She believes anything is possible and never gives up,” the nominator added.
