A specialist team providing “excellent, compassionate care” to survivors of sexual assault has been nominated for the Business in Action Award, sponsored by Boyes Turner.

The team at Solace Slough, the Thames Valley Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC), has been recognised for the outstanding care it provides to adults and children across Reading and the wider Thames Valley at some of the most traumatic moments of their lives.

Commissioned by NHS England and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner, Solace SARC provides “specialist forensic healthcare, crisis support and advocacy… ensuring every individual is treated with dignity, kindness and respect,” their nominator said.

Every day, the team demonstrates extraordinary compassion, professionalism and resilience. “Their trauma-informed approach helps survivors feel safe, listened to and empowered to make informed choices about their care, free from pressure or judgement.”

Supporting an average of 51 clients each quarter, the team has developed excellent partnerships with local services, including sexual health (GUM) clinics, counselling providers like Trust House Reading, and other specialist agencies, ensuring survivors have seamless access to ongoing healthcare, counselling and advocacy.

Available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the team “consistently goes above and beyond for patients and one another,” the nominator said.

“Their unwavering commitment to excellence, equality and compassionate care has a profound and lasting impact on some of the most vulnerable members of our community.”
