Reading Museum
A museum bringing Reading’s local history to a global audience has been nominated for the Putting Reading on the Map Award, sponsored by Putting Reading on the Map is sponsored by the Purple Turtle and Jacobs the Jewellers.
Through its “outstanding exhibitions, educational programmes and community events,” Reading Museum brings the town’s story to life and “creates opportunities for people of all ages to learn and connect,” said its nominator.
They praised the museum’s extensive school outreach programmes, which help bring local history to life for young people, with special Victorian classroom sessions, and their Museum on Wheels pop-up events.
The faithful Victorian replica Bayeux Tapestry has drawn global attention to Reading and its remarkable historical connections.
Through its exhibitions, educational activities and community events, Reading Museum was praised for making the town’s story accessible, engaging and relevant to people of all ages.
“As a welcoming cultural landmark that promotes local pride and heritage, Reading Museum plays a vital role in putting Reading firmly on the map,” the nominator added.
The museum’s ability to connect people with Reading’s past while continuing to engage new audiences today was described as an invaluable contribution to the town’s cultural life.
