Guglielmo Miccolupi

A muralist whose works have transformed public spaces and inspired communities across Reading has been nominated for the Climate Impact and Sustainability Award, sponsored by University of Reading.

Guglielmo Miccolupi, founder of Solarpunk artist collective, Commando Jugendstil, has been recognised for celebrating the beauty of Reading’s natural environment and inspiring people to care for the places they share, through his art.

“Guglielmo’s murals are so much more than works of art,” said the nominator. “They tell the stories of our town, celebrate our wildlife and biodiversity, and inspire us to reimagine Reading as a greener, more sustainable place.”

Through his community murals, Guglielmo brings together residents and volunteers of all ages, giving people the opportunity to play a part in their creation and transform local spaces.

“What makes his work truly special is that he invites local residents and volunteers of all ages to help create it,” they added. “Every brushstroke builds confidence, connection and a shared sense of pride in place.”

His work with Nature Nurture on the Holy Brook Nook mural was highlighted as a “powerful reminder” that our local environment is something to cherish and protect,” the nominator said. “[He] listened carefully to local voices and beautifully wove river otters, native plants, local birdlife and the wellbeing garden into a vibrant celebration of the Holy Brook and Reading's natural heritage.”

Guglielmo has created spaces that encourage environmental responsibility while strengthening connections between people and nature.

“[He] doesn’t just transform empty walls; he brings communities together, nurtures pride in place and leaves a lasting legacy of creativity, environmental stewardship and hope.”
