Eco Skills Learning Centre

A charity bringing people together through practical skills, volunteering and sustainability has been nominated for the Charity of the Year Award, sponsored by Cream Design.

Eco Skills Learning Centre

The Eco Skills Learning Centre is a volunteer-led community of passionate individuals dedicated to empowering youth with practical eco-friendly skills for a sustainable future.

“Imagine a centre for volunteering men and women who learn new skills from each other and mentors,” said the nominator. “A place for new friendships and skills.”

The charity works closely with local children, inviting them to take part in hands-on projects that teach practical and craft skills. One of its most successful initiatives has been its bird box project, where children learn how to assemble bird boxes before taking them home to encourage local wildlife.

“Being at the very start of their bird box project, which has now produced 1,000 units, has been both a proud and fulfilling experience for us,” the nominator added.

Eco Skills also works with local businesses, which provide products, services and support to help projects grow and reach more people. A key part of the charity’s work is sustainability, with donated materials that might otherwise be discarded being recycled and reused in community projects.

“My connection is in saving and donating materials we would otherwise have thrown away,” said the nominator.

“I am nominating Eco Skills both in recognition of their achievements and to encourage others to join and benefit from their truly special and inspiring activities.”
