The owner of a Reading comic book shop creating a welcoming community for readers of all ages has been nominated for the Independent Retailer of the Year Award, sponsored by REDA and Reading BID.

Brian Wong, owner of Crunch Comics, has been recognised for his passion, knowledge and the inclusive atmosphere he has built for comic book fans across Reading.

“Brian is one of the nicest people I have met,” said the nominator. “He shares his love for comics with everyone who enters the store and has created a real hub for comics in Reading.”

Whether customers are lifelong collectors or picking up their first comic, Brian is praised for making everyone feel welcome.

“He doesn’t judge where you are in your comic journey,” the nominator added. “He gives thoughtful suggestions and advice, helping people discover stories they’ll love.”

The nomination also highlighted the work of team member Caden, who has helped encourage more young people to discover comics and develop a love of reading.

“Brian has become somewhat of a friend because of how much of a safe environment he has created for the hobby,” said the nominator. “I couldn’t think of an independent retailer more deserving.”
