Caversham Wildlife Rescue and Support

A group committed to protecting Reading’s wildlife has been nominated for the Volunteers of the Year Award, sponsored by AB Walker.

Working tirelessly along the River Thames and surrounding waterways in Caversham and south Reading, Caversham Wildlife Rescue and Support has been recognised for their “dedication to protecting, rescuing and feeding” the swans, geese, and ducks that call the waterways home.

As well as responding to wildlife emergencies, the volunteers help report crimes against wildlife, raise awareness of diseases affecting birds, and share advice to members of the public on how they can also help animals in need.

The nominator also praised the group's active social media presence, which keeps people of Reading, and beyond, informed about local wildlife, educating their followers on conservation issues and encouraging community involvement.
