Carole Biles and Di Davies started the weekly Tilehurst Community Crafters, a group that has grown from a small gathering into a thriving community over the past three years.

Meeting twice a week, the group welcomes people of all ages and backgrounds to craft, learn new skills and enjoy companionship in a friendly and supportive environment.

“New members are always welcomed, whether they want to learn a new craft, continue a hobby or simply come along for a chat,” said the nominator.

For members who are unable to get to in-person sessions, Carole and Di deliver crafting materials to their homes and collect completed projects, making sure no one has to miss out.

The group creates a wide range of handmade items, including knitting, crochet, sewing and cross-stitch projects, which are donated to the local hospital, charities and community organisations across Reading.

A recent project saw members making comfort cushions for chemotherapy patients, small, soft pillows which cushion implanted chest ports, pacemakers, or surgical sites during daily travel and recovery.

“Carole and Di personally deliver many of the items where possible,” the nominator added. “Their tireless dedication has been an inspiration to us all.”
