Reading’s homeless charity Launchpad say they are proud to put forward “dream” volunteer Steve Scrace for the Volunteer/s of the Year award, sponsored by AB Walker.

They said: “Since 2020, Steve has been a consistent and dedicated presence in our volunteer team, giving his time generously and always showing up with a positive, can-do attitude.

“Steve is the kind of volunteer every organisation dreams of – always willing to help, no matter the task. His generosity with his time and energy is matched only by his deep compassion for the people we support.” they added.

In his advisory role, Steve offers “thoughtful, practical input” that reflects his commitment to the charity’s mission.

“He consistently advocates for our clients, ensuring their voices are heard and the public are educated on their plight. Whether it’s stepping in at short notice or providing a listening ear, Steve brings flexibility, care, and a calm presence to everything he does,” they said.

His passion for Launchpad’s work is evident in every interaction, said his nominators. “He doesn't just show up – he shows up with purpose, empathy, and a genuine desire to make a difference. Steve has become an integral part of our community, and his impact is felt by clients, staff, and fellow volunteers alike.”
