Starting Point

An outstanding charity, Starting Point “provides life-changing mentoring and support to young people in Reading aged 11–25 who are not in education, employment, or training, or are at risk of becoming so,” said their nominator for Charity of the Year sponsored by Reading Today.

“Starting Point creates meaningful, one-to-one mentoring relationships that empower young people to overcome significant barriers, build confidence and develop the skills needed to move forward positively in life," they added.

Partnering with local volunteers, schools and organisations in the community they reach those who are often hardest to reach and considered difficult to engage.

Their team shows “unwavering dedication to the young people they support, working tirelessly to create a safe, respectful, and hopeful environment where every person is treated with dignity and care.

“Whether helping someone apply for their first job, re-engage with education, or simply offering a listening ear, the Starting Point team is making a lasting impact across our community.”

What makes Starting Point exceptional is their focus on long-term transformation, said the nominator.

“They don’t just provide short-term solutions – they walk alongside each young person on their journey, helping them build a foundation for lasting success and wellbeing.”
