Walk Works
Caroline Gratrix and Liz Bradbury “are the heart and soul behind Walk Works, a community walking group that has brought people across Reading together in a simple, powerful way – through walking, connection and nature.”
Their nominator for the Community of the Year award sponsored by Hilton Reading said: “Their passion for making movement accessible has transformed the way many local residents experience their neighbourhood.
“Through their friendly, inclusive walks, they’ve created a space for people of all ages and abilities to feel welcome, get outdoors and learn more about the area they call home.”
But Walk Works is about more than steps – it’s about spirit, said the nominator. “Caroline and Liz have worked closely with independent cafés, local charities, artists and small businesses to enrich their routes and spotlight the hidden gems of Reading and Caversham.
“They’ve created a ripple effect, boosting footfall to local businesses, encouraging pride in the local area and helping people rediscover their surroundings with fresh eyes.”
The nominator said they’ve supported wellbeing initiatives, collaborated with local groups and brought together individuals who might otherwise feel isolated – “building friendships, confidence, and a true sense of belonging.
“Caroline and Liz are quietly transforming neighbourhood life with every walk they lead. “Walk Works has made Reading not only a healthier place to live – but a kinder, more connected one too.”
