Rabble Theatre
The “innovative and interesting” work of a theatre company has been cited as a reason Rabble Theatre should be considered for the Cultural Contribution award, sponsored by M&G Read Estate.
Nominators said: “They are an amazing company pushing the boundaries with many history stories played out on stage to make them more understandable for a range of ages to understand and enjoy.”
“Glitch was a brilliant theatrical production about the Post Office scandal and their William the Conqueror production in development is a great Reading achievement.”
The group has also been nominated for Putting Reading on the Map sponsored by The Purple Turtle and Jacobs the Jewellers.
“Rabble is creatively putting Reading on the map with fantastic, West End worthy productions whilst simultaneously being community minded, bringing children into the arts and reaching out to those who would not usually be able to access drama.
“They provide opportunities for students at every level of education and very much practice what they preach whilst operating themselves on shoestring. They optimise Pride in Reading!”
Another nominator listed their merits for the awards: “Based in Reading, community-orientated, innovative, ever-developing use of local resources including historical reconstruction and interpretation, translating their overview of history into modern times, developing contacts through tours and recorded performances.
“An important cultural asset to Reading which needs emphatic recognition of excellence and deserves further support. A highly professional group that never stands still.”
