Nylon Hair Artists
A staff in a hair salon have been put forward for an award in recognition of their “unwavering commitment to Reading’s local community and their passion for supporting fellow small businesses,” say their nominator.
“More than just a hair salon, Nylon is a creative and collaborative hub that champions local talent and independent enterprise,” they added.
“They regularly feature the work of local artists through a rotating art wall, in partnership with arts charity Jelly, turning their space into a vibrant mini gallery that gives visibility and support to creatives in Reading.”
Their nominator for the Independent Retailer award, sponsored by Reading BID and Reda, said: “Their community spirit goes far beyond the salon walls.
“Nylon has created and maintains a WhatsApp network connecting independent businesses across Reading.
“This invaluable group allows small business owners to share advice, services, and support, whether it’s finding a trusted plumber, sharing equipment, sourcing insurance, or even planning a night out.”
They also use their social media reach to amplify others. They have spearheaded collaborative Instagram giveaways and initiatives like a Twelve Days of Christmas advent calendar, spotlighting a different local business each day to boost visibility and encourage residents to shop local during the festive season.
Sustainability is also central to Nylon’s ethos, said their nominator. “They regularly share ideas and strategies for more environmentally responsible practices.
“Nylon exemplifies what it means to be an independent retailer at the heart of their community; generous, innovative, and deeply rooted in local collaboration. They are not only building a successful business but actively uplifting others along the way.”
