Men’s Shed
A “safe space where men can talk about issues that concern them”, whether health or emotional topics, has been nominated for Charity of the Year sponsored by Reading Today.
“This wonderful charity in West Reading would be so deserving of a Pride of Reading award,” said their nominator. “I had the privilege of visiting. What a great team of men – there for each other. A safe space where they can talk about issues whether that be health or emotional.”
Some have joined because their life partner has died.
“I lost my wife… I found myself on my own…”. “I hadn’t appreciated the companionship and the social side of Sheds… and now I think I’ve got loads of friends,” were some of the comments in the nomination.
The men make and mend things together at their workshops as well as work on their own projects. “They've repaired the noticeboard for Emmer Green, a dolls house and lots lots more.
“They are a brilliant team all run by volunteers,” said the nominator.
