Ethical Reading

The Ethical Reading team “are an outstanding group of volunteers whose collective efforts are making a powerful and lasting impact on our town,” said their nominator for the Volunteer/s of the Year award, sponsored by AB Walker.

Apart from two part-time admin staff, the team are all volunteers. “This dedicated team delivers training, events and initiatives designed to make Reading a more ethical, inclusive and sustainable place to live and work,” added their nominator.

“From supporting mental wellbeing in the workplace, to championing ethical business practices and environmental responsibility, their work touches every corner of the community — and they do it all without financial reward.”

Each member brings professional expertise, passion and energy, volunteering countless hours to help organisations across Reading become more “values driven”, they said.

“They’ve created practical resources, led community discussions, formed partnerships with local businesses, and provided vital training — all with the aim of creating a more compassionate and connected town.

“What sets this team apart is not just what they do, but how they do it. Their approach is thoughtful, constructive and collaborative. They don’t shout the loudest – they quietly get on with the work that really matters.

“They exemplify the spirit of civic duty and community leadership, stepping up year after year to create positive change — and expecting nothing in return,” they said.
