Dogmouth Theatre
A small women-led theatre company, committed to its base in Reading, is an example of artistic excellence, said its nominator for the Cultural Contribution award, sponsored by M&G Real Estate.
The local theatre company produces shows, cabarets and events throughout the year, said the nominator.
“Their LGBTQ+ cabaret Howling At The Moon runs bi-annually and offers a platform for women, non-binary and trans artists to perform comedy, live music, new writing and drag to Reading audiences.”
The event has been “a runaway success” they said, having sold out the last few shows, and has now secured funding from Reading Borough Council to continue for at least another year.
Dogmouth is also taking its award-winning show Sluts With Consoles on a national tour this summer, starting with a hometown show at South Street Arts Centre.
“Despite having found success and an audience at regional theatre festivals, they have always remained committed to their base in Reading and have been passionate about supporting the arts in our hometown,” they added.
The company produces for the local community, hiring Reading-based artists wherever possible, and supporting other Reading-based artists through collaborations, they said. These include involvement in DIY Pride Reading and longstanding relationships with South Street, Rising Sun Arts Centre and Double Okay Collective.
“As a small, female-led business, Dogmouth are an example of artistic excellence from Reading, and why they are a great candidate for the award.”
