Vincent Valere
The man behind a community festival bringing a taste of France to Reading for over 14 years has been nominated for the Putting Reading on the Map Award, sponsored by The Purple Turtle and Jacobs the Jewellers.
Vincent Valere runs Reading’s annual Bastille Day Festival, and the popular French Market in the Forbury Gardens, and “dedicates countless hours to organising the weekend event, supporting the French community and creating a vibrant cultural celebration in the town.”
“Vince is incredibly dedicated,” said his nominator. “He organises vendors, dancers and singers, and tirelessly promotes the festival throughout the year.”
The event brings together history, culture and community, “bringing the 12th century to life with living history displays, authentic crafts, armour and combat demonstrations, exploring the shared heritage of France and England.”
His dedication has also earned nominations in the Inspiration and Hospitality Award categories, sponsored by McDonald’s, and Cherubs Floral Design.
“His vision has brought together independent traders, artisans and food creators, giving small businesses a platform to grow and connect with new customers,” his nominator for the Inspiration Award said.
“Through his dedication, Vincent has built more than just a market. He has created a welcoming community where people from different backgrounds come together, share experiences and support one another.”
