South Street Arts Centre
South Street Arts Centre has been nominated for the Chris Tarrant Award, sponsored by The Oracle, in recognition of its “outstanding contribution to the Reading community.”
“For many years, South Street has been a welcoming and inclusive cultural hub, offering affordable access to theatre, music and creative opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds. It is more than a venue it is a place where people feel safe, valued and inspired,” said its nominator.
Their nominator’s personal experience with the venue and its staff also prompted them to nominate South Street for the award: “[My son] has SEND needs and would struggle to access mainstream drama provision, but at South Street he has found a group where he feels understood and able to thrive.”
The impact has been transformative, helping to build confidence and create a genuine sense of belonging.
“South Street also nurtures local talent and brings the community together through shared creative experiences, strengthening both wellbeing and community connection. Its long-standing commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and community makes it truly deserving of this recognition.”
