Chris Duret
A specialist supporting families through the challenging days of early parenthood has been nominated for the Local Hero award, sponsored by Green Park.
Chris Duret is an antenatal and postnatal practitioner who runs a local breastfeeding clinic, perinatal fitness classes, providing practical support, reassurance and expert guidance to young families across Reading.
“Chris knows everything worth knowing about early motherhood and babies,” said the nominator. “Her knowledge goes far beyond her advertised expertise.”
The nominator highlighted not only her professional expertise, but also the warmth, humour and compassion that make Chris such a trusted figure for local parents.
“What really makes Chris a local hero is that no subject is off topic or too shameful,” the nominator added.
Through her groups and weekly yoga class, Chris has helped create a supportive community where mothers feel able to show up “exactly as they are”, without judgement or pressure. “I’ve made friendships from her groups and her weekly yoga class gives me a place to show up as I am,” the nominator said.
Her support has had a profound impact on families during what can be an overwhelming and isolating time.
“I credit a lot of my positive early motherhood experience to Chris,” the nominator said.
“I would have given up breastfeeding if it wasn’t for her help, and a lot of the mums of Reading would agree.”
