Jessica Lane
A young mum fighting bone cancer and raising awareness of the disease has been nominated for the Inspiration Award, sponsored by McDonald’s.
Jessica Lane was first diagnosed with bone cancer four years ago, shortly after the birth of her son Theo, forcing her to balance the challenges of cancer treatment with caring for a newborn baby.
Because of the aggressive nature of the disease, Jessica underwent a shoulder amputation, a life-changing operation that brought enormous physical and emotional challenges, learning to live without one arm while also raising a young child.
“Despite everything she has faced, she has remained incredibly positive and determined,” her nominator said.
During her recovery Jessica dedicated herself to raising awareness of bone cancer, particularly after concerns that her diagnosis may have been missed at earlier opportunities.
“Wanting to improve the lives of others, she has been spreading awareness for bone cancer since her diagnosis.”
Even after previously being given the ‘all clear’, Jessica is now facing cancer for a second time.
She has taken part in numerous fundraising and awareness campaigns to help improve outcomes for others.
Even after previously being given the all clear, Jessica is now facing cancer for a second time. However this has not stopped her being an ambassador for bone cancer.
Most recently, while working and raising her son, Jessica organised a charity fundraising evening herself, raising more than £4,000.
“Jess is a truly selfless person,” the nominator said. “She really is the one-armed warrior.”
