Hudson Willmot

A “determined” eight-year-old who has raised vital funds for charity has been nominated for Child of Courage, sponsored by De Vere Wokefield Estate.

Hudson Willmot

Hudson Willmot was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2025, following a serious seizure.

“For any child, that would be frightening,” said the nominator. “For an energetic, independent eight-year-old who just wants to keep up with his big brother, it has meant a lot of adjusting.”

Medication has helped shorten his seizures, but Hudson still experiences them regularly and has had to adapt to new safety measures, including supervision while swimming and overnight monitoring.

Despite this, his “willingness to get on with it has been really brave”, and Hudson now wants to help others understand epilepsy and raise awareness of a condition he felt was often invisible.

“He decided to walk 150km in February to raise money for Epilepsy Action,” the nominator explained. “February is the shortest month. Hudson didn't care! He was up before school in the wind and rain, dragging his family out for 5km walks before the school day began.”

Originally hoping to raise £150, Hudson went on to raise an incredible £1,124.47.

“He is brave, kind, and even while facing something scary himself, he has chosen to think about other people,” the nominator added. “We are so proud of him.”
