Two young cyclists who turned an extraordinary endurance challenge into a powerful campaign against domestic abuse have been nominated for The Inspiration Award, sponsored by McDonald‘s.

Harley Russell and Noah Reid have been recognised for their “Braking the Cycle” challenge, in which they cycled an incredible 830km round trip from Reading to Ireland and back in support of Berkshire Women’s Aid.

Their efforts raised more than £6,300, with every penny going towards helping the charity support survivors of domestic abuse across Reading and the surrounding area.

“Their achievement is not only physically impressive, but deeply meaningful,” said their nominator. “As young men choosing to stand publicly with a charity supporting survivors of abuse, they have shown courage, empathy and leadership.”

By taking on such a visible challenge, Noah and Harley helped start conversations among their peers about healthy relationships, respect and abuse awareness.

“Domestic abuse is an issue that needs voices from across the whole community,” the nominator added. “Noah and Harley are challenging the silence and helping educate others.”

As well as raising vital funds, the pair have helped increase awareness of Berkshire Women’s Aid and the support available to those experiencing abuse.

“They have shown that supporting survivors can be active, visible and powerful…Noah and Harley are an outstanding example of community inspiration in Reading and beyond.”
