An “exceptional example” of the life-changing impact of volunteering has been nominated for Volunteer of the Year, sponsored by AB Walker, in recognition of his dedication to the charity Christian Community Action.

Chris Ambrose

Since joining CCA in 2011, Chris Ambrose has become an invaluable member of the team, regularly helping with van crews delivering and collecting furniture for those who need it most.

“When he first came to CCA, he described himself as ‘lazy, unhealthy, and drifting with no direction’,” said the nominator. “Through volunteering, he found structure, belonging and renewed confidence.”

Chris says the charity helped him rebuild his sense of purpose and reconnect with faith “on his own terms,” with that personal growth continuing to shape his life today.

Living with ADHD, Asperger’s syndrome, dyspraxia and epilepsy has never stopped him from supporting others. Instead, his experiences have helped him connect with people around him and encourage fellow volunteers.

Chris has since naturally become a mentor and friend to others within the charity.

“He helps people feel included and valued, often leading by example,” the nominator added.

“To him, CCA is more than a charity, it is a second family.

“His story demonstrates the transformative power of volunteering and why he is so deserving of recognition.”
