Alexa Volker

Seven years of dedication to improving Reading’s town centre has been recognised with a nomination for Employee of the Year, sponsored by Reading Buses.

Alexa Volker has managed Reading’s two Business Improvement Districts – Reading Central BID and the Abbey Quarter BID, since 2022.

“Alexa does a truly phenomenal job,” said the nominator. “Her dedication shows in everything she does.”

Alexa now works with more than 600 retailers, businesses and organisations across the town centre, helping deliver a safer, cleaner and more attractive environment for residents, workers and visitors.

The nomination highlights a range of improvements delivered under Alexa’s leadership, including new floral displays, tree planting along the River Kennet, dedicated town centre wardens, additional street cleaning, and safety initiatives such as drink-spiking test kits.

Alexa has also been praised for her support of independent businesses and for helping organise events that celebrate Reading’s diverse community, including Independents Day, multicultural events, and a recent paddleboard clean-up of the Kennet Canal.

“Alexa’s enthusiasm and endless supply of ideas mean she goes above and beyond for the businesses and customers of Reading,” the nominator added.

“She is a brilliant ambassador for Reading and absolutely deserves recognition for the passion and hard work she brings to her role and Reading every single day.”
