This Award recognises ‘diversity and inclusiveness’, in Reading, as a welcoming town to all and as City of Sanctuary for ten years.
Refugee Support Group, which has helped refugees rebuild their lives in Reading for 30 years, has a vision of an inclusive society where refugees and people seeking asylum are treated with humanity, dignity and respect.
The group, first established in Reading in 1994 “strives for a society where basic human needs are met, and where refugees can receive the support they need to play a role in their new community”.
With a base of volunteers, they provide information and knowledge to support refugees and asylum seekers.
The support group acts as a first point of contact in Reading, a City of Sanctuary for ten years, “which is so vital”.
