Younger People With Dementia

YPWD has been put forward for the Charity of the Year award for its “outstanding contribution to individuals affected by young onset dementia, offering innovative, person-centred, and risk-positive care.”

The charity provides age-appropriate activities, enhances quality of life, and works with NHS services and other stakeholders for integrated support.

“Through their dedication, innovation, and collaborative approach, YPWD is transforming the lives of individuals and families affected by young onset dementia,” said their nominator for the award, sponsored by Reading Today.

YPWD also addresses gaps in local provision, promotes awareness, and supports children and young people with parents living with young onset dementia.

Additionally, the charity delivers education and training to carers, people with dementia, families, and professionals.

“Their positive psychosocial interventions are a vital part of the broader care pathway, dovetailing seamlessly with NHS services, Admiral Nurses, dementia care advisors, and other stakeholders to provide a truly integrated support model,” said their nominator.

“Going far beyond the expectations of their remit, YPWD actively identifies and addresses gaps in local provision – continually adapting services to meet the evolving needs of those they support.

“Their work is inclusive and community-focused, reaching out to wider communities to promote awareness, improve inclusion, and encourage health-seeking behaviours,” they added.
