The Flowing Spring

A couple have beaten Covid and flooding to make their award-winning pub “a great success”, said their nominator for the Hospitality Award, sponsored by Cream Design.

Nick Wilson and Hazel Lucas took over The Flowing Spring more than 14 years ago and “have dedicated themselves to making it such a great success.  

“The kitchen has won many awards and serves fresh, home-made food, including meals suitable for vegetarians, vegans and those with intolerances to gluten, dairy and various allergens,” said the nomination.

“There are a number of events throughout the year ranging from classic car and bike meetings to murder mystery evenings and astronomy nights,” they added.

“However, it’s probably in the field of live music that it has gained a loyal and eclectic following, introducing new talent, established acts, tribute bands, unplugged evenings, ukulele sets and singalongs. There is literally something for everyone.” 

Meanwhile the couple have maintained their place in the Camra real ale guide.  

The nominator continued: “In a time when many country pubs and social hubs are disappearing at an alarming rate, Nick and Hazel’s resilience and enthusiasm is remarkable. This traditional pub really is a ‘local’ gem and provides fun and entertainment for Reading and the wider area.”
