Shed

Shed is “our wonderful independent café in Merchants Place,” said their nominator for the Hospitality Award, sponsored by Cream Design and inspired by and in memory of Hilary Scott.

“This year they are celebrating their tenth birthday. Ten years of yummy interesting lunches for those of us fortunate enough to work in town and on a sunny day there is nothing better than a Shed special salad takeaway box in Forbury Gardens,” said the nominator.

“Lydia and Pete the owners are both local and community spirited. In my time at Launchpad they would kindly provide soup to serve to the fundraisers taking part in the Big Sleep Out.” They added: “There is so much that sets them apart – the relationships they build, the food made from scratch, the quirky building.

“And personally their support in helping raise awareness of the food hygiene ratings where inspections are carried out by Reading Borough Council in order to keep people safe with the food they eat and establishments are given a rating up to five. Obviously Shed proudly have a five!

“Lydia and Peter are the best!”

Other comments included: “Best toasties in town, brilliant eatery and Shed is a gem.”
