Nusrat Sultan

A dedicated volunteer and team member at Project Salama, Nusrat Sultan has been put forward for The Chris Tarrant Award, in recognition of her “tireless work supporting vulnerable women and families across Reading.”

Her nominator added: “Nusrat plays a pivotal role at Project Salama, a charity committed to empowering ethnic minority communities affected by abuse, mental health issues, and social isolation.

“Her compassion, empathy, and resilience shine through in everything she does.

“Whether she’s leading community sessions, providing emotional support, or working behind the scenes to ensure women and children have access to the help they need, Nusrat goes above and beyond without ever seeking recognition.”

They added she is especially known for building trust with individuals who have experienced trauma, ensuring they feel safe, seen, and supported. Her ability to listen without judgement and offer practical advice has helped countless individuals regain their confidence and independence they said.

“Nusrat’s involvement in the charity’s ‘Chai and Chat’ sessions – a safe space for conversation and connection – demonstrates her commitment to breaking down cultural and emotional barriers. She is a true community advocate, someone who gives her time selflessly and consistently to make Reading a more inclusive, understanding, and compassionate place.

“Nusrat Sultan’s quiet leadership, unwavering compassion, and fierce commitment to making life better for others perfectly reflect the spirit of The Chris Tarrant Award. Her work is changing lives every day – and Reading is a kinder, safer place because of her.”

The award, which celebrates someone who lives or works in Reading who deserves special recognition, is sponsored by The Oracle.
