In 2017, risk of redundancy gave Alex Forbes the idea to follow his dream to own a bookshop. He thought that if he won the lottery he would be able to do it.
He didn’t win the lottery but in 2020 he opened Fourbears Books in Prospect Street, Caversham.
Fourbears hosts many events including a baby reading group, book launches, visiting authors and, in the lead into the Christmas season, Wine and Words
“The most ambitious event” is Fourbears Fest for children.” A community asset, Fourbears offers a book ordering service and opens six days a week “to ensure excellent customer service,” said their nominator.
