George Joyce

Four people standing together on a stage, celebrating. The man second from the left is holding a bouquet of flowers and a glass award. A large screen behind them shows a smiling face.

A 75-year-old who has “spent all his life helping others”, George works at food bank Readifood delivering food parcels, ready to undertake emergency deliveries and making time to listen to clients problems.

He volunteers until the early hours at First Stop, a charity helping those out at night and in distress in Reading. A volunteer at Readistreet, a place for the homeless and hungry to go for food and hot drinks, he also maintains properties for Hope into Action, a charity providing housing for the homeless. He is “a friend and supportive mentor” to refugees and asylum seekers.
