“A proper Reading institution” showing remarkable resilience through decades of change has been nominated for the Hospitality Award, sponsored by Cherubs Floral Design.

London Street Brasserie first opened its doors in 2000, and is praised as “one of the very few true special-occasion restaurants in Reading.”

The nominator commended the restaurant’s ability to survive and thrive through recessions, the COVID-19 pandemic, the cost-of-living crisis and other incredible challenging periods faced by the hospitality sector.

“At a difficult time for the industry, it’s important to celebrate a business that has continued to invest in Reading and remain committed to its customers,” the nominator added.

The restaurant was previously championed by the late Hilary Scott and received a Pride of Reading Award in 2007, when it was named Best Restaurant.

However, the nominator believes that nearly 20 years later, the business deserves recognition for a different reason: its resilience, consistency and determination to remain part of Reading’s hospitality scene despite the many changes the town has experienced over the past quarter of a century.

“Their passion for both Reading and the hospitality industry is clear,” they said. “They deserve to be recognised not just for excellent food and service, but for their unwavering commitment to Reading and the customers who have supported them for more than two decades.”
