Care4Calais Reading

Made up entirely of volunteers, Care4Calais Reading gives its time, energy and care selflessly to support people seeking safety and stability.

“They regularly visit hotels where vulnerable people are living, often meeting frightened and traumatised individuals who are unsure where to turn,” said the nominator. “The team offers reassurance, kindness and dignity at some of the hardest moments in people’s lives.”

Volunteers accompany people to hospital appointments, help them connect with local communities, answer calls during overwhelming moments and ensure individuals feel valued and supported.

The team’s dedication has had a life-changing impact on many people across Reading, helping individuals feel seen, cared for and welcomed during incredibly difficult circumstances.

“They celebrate birthdays for people who may never have celebrated one before,” the nominator added, highlighting the humanity and joy the group brings to those facing immense hardship.

“This team gives everything with love and compassion, asking for nothing in return.

“Their dedication has transformed the lives of so many people in Reading, and the gratitude felt towards them by those they support is immense.”
